Colin Westgate - photography
Colin Westgate has been photographing in the landscape for some 60 years, and remains as passionate about it as ever. He has travelled to many parts of the world for his award winning images, yet still considers the landscapes of the UK to be some of the very best anywhere.
He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in 1976 and in 1990 he obtained the international distinction of Master of the Federation of Photographic Art - at the time he was only the second photographer in the UK to achieve this. He is also a Member of the London Salon of Photography, the Suffolk Monochrome Group and Colchester Photographic Society. He has sat on panels for the Royal Photographic Society's Licentiateship distinctions and for Associate and Fellowship in Photographic Printing.
He has exhibited throughout the world, gaining many awards and he has been a selector for a number of National and International exhibitions. He lectures and judges at Photographic Clubs and Societies throughout the UK.
He established Quest Photography in 1993 to provide tutorials and workshops for photographers of all standards. Some of these are held at his home in West Mersea whereas others include trips to outstanding photographic locations both in the UK and overseas.
'Photography teaches you 'see' and 'feel', not just look, and to truly appreciate what is around you. This can range from the majesty of spectacular scenery to the serene calm of a dawn sunrise and to the intimacy of close-in detail nearby. It is a real privilege to be a photographer'.
